69. Old Exams Archive¶
What this covers¶
This chapter is not a lecture: it documents the "Old exams" page that STAT210A (Berkeley's PhD-level theoretical statistics course) has kept on its course site across the fall-2024, fall-2025 and fall-2026 offerings. The page is a standing link list to the course's own past final exams and their solutions. It assumes only that the reader knows this is a logistics page rather than course content, and it records what the page links to and how that list drifted across three years of the same course being taught again — nothing about the exams' mathematical content, which is not part of the supplied material.
What the archive links to¶
Every version of the page follows the same pattern: a link to the current offering's own final exam and solutions at the top, followed by a fixed run of earlier finals, each with its solutions: Fall 2023, Fall 2021, Fall 2020, and Fall 2019. Fall 2020's exam itself has no link in any version — only its solutions do, suggesting the exam file was never posted or the link was lost. No version of the page links to a Fall 2022 exam at all; that year is simply absent from the archive in every offering supplied here.
How the page changed across offerings¶
Comparing the four snapshots shows the archive being copied forward from year to year rather than rebuilt from scratch, and shows where that copying went wrong:
- Fall 2024's page correctly labels its top entry "Fall 2024," linking to that year's own
final (
old-exams/final2024/index.md) with its solutions bundled in the same page. - Fall 2025's top-level page carries the same top entry, still linking to
old-exams/final2024/index.md, but the label was not updated and still reads "Fall 2023" — a duplicate of the label already used, one row down, for the actual Fall 2023 exam. The current year's own final and solutions are not linked from this page at all. - Fall 2025 has a second, near-identical copy of the same page under
units/old-exams.md. That copy drops the mislabelled top entry entirely and starts straight from Fall 2023, so the most recent final referenced anywhere on it is two years old. - Fall 2026's page repeats the fall-2025 top-level version exactly, including the same stale
"Fall 2023" label pointing at
old-exams/final2024/index.md.
Across all four, the run from Fall 2023 back through Fall 2019 is untouched — same links, same solutions, same order — which is consistent with the page being edited only at the top each year and the historical tail being left alone (and, in Fall 2025's case, occasionally left off a duplicate copy altogether).

The exam papers and solution sets these pages link to (Fall 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023, and each offering's own final) are referenced but were not supplied as input to this chapter, and none of their content is reproduced here.
