71. Recitation Materials Index

What this covers

This "chapter" is not a lecture: it is the table of contents that STAT 210A (Berkeley, Fall 2025 and Fall 2026 editions) uses to point students at the course's discussion-section ("recitation") handouts. It answers only one question — what recitation material exists and in what order — and assumes nothing beyond having enrolled in the course. The mathematical content of each individual recitation lives in separate handouts that were not supplied for this conversion, so none of it is reproduced here; inventing it would misrepresent what the source actually says.

The recitation sequence

Both the Fall 2025 and the Fall 2026 course sites list the same five recitation handouts, in the same order, with no differences in content between the two years:

  1. Recitation 1: probability review — distributed only as a PDF handout, linked directly from the course repository rather than converted to a page here.
  2. Recitation 2: more on probability
  3. Recitation 3: matrix algebra
  4. Recitation 4: projection matrices
  5. Recitation 5: normal theory distributions

The ordering — probability, then matrix algebra, then projection matrices, then normal theory distributions — tracks the usual prerequisite chain for a course built on linear models: the probability review and matrix-algebra sessions supply the background that the later sessions on projection matrices and normal theory distributions are built from. That is as far as the source goes, however; it gives titles and an order, not derivations, so this chapter stops there rather than reconstructing what each handout might contain.

Both pages credit the material to Dohyeong Ki, GSI for the course in Fall 2021 — the handouts predate both the Fall 2025 and Fall 2026 offerings and have been carried forward unchanged.

What is missing from this conversion

Four of the five handouts exist as their own pages (recitation 2 through 5, each linked above), and the first exists only as an external PDF. None of the five was included in the material handed to this conversion — only the two index pages that link to them were. A reader who wants the actual probability-review, matrix-algebra, projection-matrix, or normal-theory content needs those handouts directly; this chapter cannot summarize what it was not given.
